Photos of an isolated Amazonian tribe that doesn’t know our civilization exists

Brazilian photographer Ricardo Stuckert had to reroute his helicopter flight because of a storm, but this detour led to a series of incredible photos of a remote rainforest tribe.

These high-resolution images were taken in the Brazilian state of Acre, near the border with Peru. In this region, forests and indigenous inhabitants are heavily protected. This series of photos shows a small group of people in simple clothing, weapons and body paint. During contact, one of the men even threw his spear at the helicopter.

Experts say it’s the same indigenous tribe that was spotted in the photos and gained global attention in 2008. Members of the tribe were also seen sporting red body paint and shooting arrows at a low-flying plane. It is believed that they move every four years or so.

“I felt like a painter from the last century,” Stuckert told National Geographic. “To think that in the 21st century there are still people who have no contact with civilization, living as their ancestors lived 20,000 years ago – is a powerful emotion.”
