Tree pruning in the 19th century was a major operation and required teams of men to harvest the upper branches of trees in order to create denser foliage at the top. Though in some cases the pruners were simply trying to keep the trees from becoming a hazard.
It took an entire team to work on a tree that size because it would be a huge undertaking for one or two people. Can you imagine how heavy are the branches that hold the men to the top of the tree? I hope they aren’t afraid of heights.
